One-day Botanical Drawing Workshop

One-day Botanical Drawing Workshop

Spend the day in a relaxed atmosphere learning the basics of drawing and rendering skills to create your own botanical illustration. Our workspace is an intimate workshop in lovely Fremont, Seattle with lots of natural light.

My drawing workshops are designed to as a great way for beginners to receive lots of one-on-one instruction and feedback in a supportive environment.

The class is suitable for beginners to intermediate and will cover the following areas:

  • Materials to use including artist quality graphite, pigment pens, and smooth bristol paper.

  • Rendering techniques using graphite pencil, fine liner pen, and charcoal.

  • Art theory including the Elements of Art shape, line, tone and texture.

  • How to utilize a lightbox to transfer artwork and create layouts.

During the workshop you will have time to learn and develop your skills before applying them to create your own botanical drawing.

On the day there will be plenty of floral inspiration provided as well as the opportunity to draw. The cost of the course includes equipment to be used during the workshop such as drawing materials, specialist paper. Coffee and tea will be provided, as well as a crudités of veggies and crackers. Plan to bring your own full lunch or visit the local food spots downstairs for a quick bite before we get back down to business in the afternoon.

I’ve been a graphic designer for 15 years, working in print and digital graphics. I’ve always maintained my drawing and painting in parallel, and both specialties aid in my work. I hold a certification from University of Washington in Natural Science Illustration, and am an art director at a consulting agency in Seattle during the week. I’ll use all of my skills as an artist and designer to show you my techniques to illustrate plants in perspective, capturing the details that expose the beautiful secrets they have within them.
